Ford has a new supercar! The Ford GT was unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. In 1966 a Ford GT won the Le Mans and Ford will be commemorating that milestone with a brand new version of the famed GT.
The new Ford GT not only looks good but also packs many innovations. The GT's body is built with a hand-laid lightweight carbon fiber construction passenger cell and makes use of aluminum front and rear sub-frames sheathed in the carbon fiber body panels. This makes it one of the lightest cars on the market.
Special attention has been placed on the GT's body with some of the most aerodynamic design ever incorporated in a Ford. The GT utilizes a rear spoiler that extends as speeds rise to give the vehicle more stability. The spoiler can also act as an air brake at high speeds. Other active aerodynamic systems have been used in the design along with an adjustable suspension that can cling lower to the ground at high speeds, and also be raised at the push of a button to drive over speed bumps and other road hazards.
Perhaps the biggest news is the new engine found in the GT. The new Ford GT will be making more than 600 horsepower through a next generation twin turbo, direct injection, 3.5 liter EcoBoost V-6. Ford has spent countless hours developing this EcoBoost to ensure that it will live up to Supercar Status - the engine is very similar to Ford's Daytona Prototype LMP2 race car engine. The 600+ Ecoboost will be powering the rear wheels through a new seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
