When people come into Greenway Ford looking for the best mid-sized crossover, we are more than happy to show them Ford’s 2018 Edge. Available in four different models, this new crossover houses utility and reliability in a charming outer package.
There are three engine options available in the Edge, which means that you can tailor this crossover’s performance outputs to suit your needs. The 2.0 liter (L) EcoBoost I-4 lets you have 245 horsepower (hp) and 275 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. The 3.5 L Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) V6 produces 280 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the 2.7 EcoBoost V6 gives you an impressive 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
The Edge’s fuel efficiency is nothing to scoff at either. All three engines have similar ratings, with the 2.0 L EcoBoost I-4 getting the top score at 20 miles per gallon (mpg) driving on Orlando’s streets, 29 mpg while cruising Orlando FL’s highways, and 24 mpg combined while in front-wheel drive.
Just because the Edge is a crossover does not mean that it is not meant for work. The Class II Trailer Tow Prep Package (available on the SEL and Titanium models) with trailer sway control gives you a towing capability of up to 3,500 pounds (lbs). Should whatever you are towing start to sway, the trailer sway control feature will either reduce engine torque or precisely apply the brakes in order to ensure that you can keep your trailer under control.
Many people choose crossovers because they want more room than what they would get with a sedan. The 2018 Edge gives you ample room for passengers and cargo, and then some. Cargo volume behind the front row (with the rear row folded down) is a spacious 73.4 cubic feet. Cargo volume behind the rear row (with the rear row in the upright position) is 39.2 cubic feet. The rear seats are easily folded down to give you the maximum in cargo space. If you need room for five passengers, you simply fold the seats back up again.
Like all of Ford’s other 2018 vehicles, the new Edge comes with top of the line safety features. The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) can detect any vehicle entering your blind spots through radar in the rear quarter panels. If something should enter your blind spot, you are notified via a light on the rear-view mirror. The adaptive cruise control feature, which also has a forward collision warning with brake support function, lets you set the distance you wish to maintain between you and any car ahead of you while driving. Should the vehicle ahead of you slow, your car will slow down too and will only increase its speed when the vehicle ahead of you accelerates. Another safety feature, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Curve Control, can sense any wheel slippage while you are driving and will accordingly change engine torque.
The interior of the 2018 Edge also has its fair share of impressive technology. A 4.2-inch color LCD screen in the center stack is standard, but is also available in an 8-inch color LCD Capacitive touchscreen. The larger touchscreen additionally comes with the SYNC 3, AppLink, and 911 Assist features, as well as 2 USB smart-charging ports. The MyKey feature is a good way to encourage any other people who may be driving your vehicle to do so responsibly. With this feature, you can program any key for your vehicle and set your preferred mode for driving. Whenever a programmed key is inserted into the ignition, the system will detect your individual code and activate the mode you prefer. MyKey provides a good platform for you and any others driving your car to develop safe driving habits.
Ford’s newest Edge goes above and beyond other crossovers, giving you great functionality without compromising in any other area. If you are looking for a vehicle that can be both versatile and fun, the 2018 Edge is for you.
