Crossovers are popular with Orlando FL drivers because of how versatile they are. To that end, Ford’s 2018 Escape is exactly what many drivers are looking for in their next automotive purchase. Compact without losing its utility, the new Escape is one of the best in its class for good reason.
Cargo storage is one of the main reasons many people in Orlando opt to purchase crossovers. With its newest Escape model, Ford has created a crossover with an impressive storage capacity. Cargo volume behind the front row (with both rear seats folded down) is 68 cubic feet. Cargo volume behind the second row (with both rear seats upright) is 34 cubic feet. Folding down the entire rear seat also gives you a flat load space, which is perfect when you have to haul something big and unwieldy around. The rear seat has a 60-40 split, which means you can easily fold down a portion for that extra space while still having room for three passengers. Should you feel that you will need even more space for storage, the SE and Titanium models come with a roof rack.
Just because the Escape is a crossover does not mean it cannot be used for a little work. If you opt to get either the 1.5 liter (L) EcoBoost Class II Trailer Tow Prep or the 2.0L Class II Trailer Tow packages, you will be able to pull up to 3,500 pounds (lb). The tow packages include technology that help to mitigate trailer sway by either reducing the engine’s torque or by utilizing precise braking. You can put your Escape to work in off-road situations, too – the available Intelligent 4-wheel Drive (4WD) system will always be monitoring road condition and traction. If needed, it will move torque from the front wheels to the rear so that you have optimum handling regardless of where you are.
Safety, which is a concern for every driver, was a main focus in the design of the 2018 Escape. There are many safety features that come standard, including AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, which detects wheel slippage and adjusts engine torque to compensate. Additionally, each Escape comes with dual-stage driver and front seat passenger airbags, front seat-mounted airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, and two-row side-curtain airbags. The available Adaptive Cruise Control lets the driver choose the distance they wish to maintain behind the vehicle in front of them. Whenever traffic slows, the Escape will automatically slow down too and will increase its speed again when traffic speed increases. The Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support system will alert you to the possibility of a collision with any vehicle that is in front of you. If you fail to react in time, the brakes will react with heightened responsiveness when you finally decide to take action.
In regards to performance levels in the crossover class, the new Escape does not disappoint. With three available engines to choose from, you can tailor your Escape to suit your performance preferences. The 2.5 L I-4 engine produces 168 horsepower (hp) and 170 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. The 1.5 L EcoBoost I-4 puts out 179 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. If you are looking for something a little beefier, the 2.0 L EcoBoost I-4 gives you 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0 L EcoBoost engine comes with available Auto Start-Stop technology, which gives the driver faster torque on demand.
It makes sense that when you buy a new vehicle, you are also able to customize it so that it suits you. The 2018 Escape has a large variety of customization options, including 10 different exterior colors and two interior colors you can pick from. If you would like your Escape to look a little more sporty, you can opt to purchase the SE Sport Appearance Package (for the SE model only). The power panoramic Vista Roof with power shade will class up the interior, and you can add some flashiness to the exterior by choosing 18-inch bright machined aluminium or 19-inch painted aluminium wheels.
