While shopping for a new car in the full-size crossover department, you might find that most vehicles in this class all tend to look the same. With its new 2018 Flex, Ford has come up with the answer to that problem. Not only does the Flex have an extremely unique appearance, it also provides functionality on a level that other full-size crossovers do not.
Available in three different models (SE, SEL, and Limited), the Flex’s sleek and linear frame, standout grille, bright dual exhaust tips, and liftgate applique mean that it is easily distinguishable from any other vehicle. Ford gives you the opportunity to make your Flex stand out even more by letting you select from nine different exterior paint colors (dual tone is an option with the Limited and SEL models). You can also choose to change the appearance of the wheels with options like bright-painted aluminium, polished aluminium, and more. If you want to drive the highways of Orlando FL in a car that draws attention to the max, the available appearance package that adds Shadow Black accents might be just what you need.
Your ride should look as good on the inside as it does on the outside. Lucky for you, the new Flex has got you covered. With three different color options, you can customize the interior to complement the exterior. Depending on what model you choose, you can live the life of luxury in perforated leather-trimmed seats and enjoy the chrome doorsill scuff plates and leather-wrapped, wood inlay steering wheel. The Multipanel Vista Roof gives you four skylights over three rows of seats. The first row has a power moonroof, the second row has two windows, and over the third row is a skylight.
The interior of the 2018 Flex is also, in a word, spacious. Seven-person seating is standard, and along with that comes an impressive amount of leg-room for the second and third rows. The second row bench seat splits 60-40 and the third row bench seat splits 50-50. Both rows of passenger seating can be folded flat to allow for greater cargo capacity. With the second and third rows folded down you get an impressive 83.2 cubic feet of storage volume. Folding down the third row gets you 43.2 cubic feet, and with all seating rows upright you have 20 cubic feet of cargo space.
The new Flex comes outfitted with all the latest technology, granting you every convenience while you drive. Standard features include four 12-volt powerpoints, an audio system complete with USB and MP3 capabilities, and a 4.2-inch color LCD touchscreen in the center stack that comes outfitted with 911 Assist and AppLink. Other available features include an eight-inch touchscreen upgrade (outfitted with SYNC 3), two smart-charge USB ports, SiriusXM Radio, and the Voice-Activated Navigation System.
This crossover is no slouch in the performance department either. The 3.5 liter (L) Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) V6 engine provides you with 287 horsepower (hp) and 254 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque, compared to the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine, which gives you 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ratings put the Flex at 16 miles per gallon (mpg) city driving, 23 mpg highway driving, and 19 mpg combined while in front-wheel drive with the 3.5 L Ti-VCT V6; with the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 (all-wheel drive), you will be getting 15 mpg while driving in the city, 21 mpg driving on the highways, and 17 mpg combined.
